Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity

Our aim is to increase knowledge, awareness and understanding around mental health, and the impact of poor mental health.

Through education we can all learn to recognise symptoms of poor mental health in ourselves and in each other.

We believe that mental health needs to be destigmatised and treated as seriously as physical health.

HELP - Jim's Story is a fund under the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) umbrella. HELP work within the Royal Navy and its industry partners.

Jim’s Story

Poor mental health is still something many people find difficult to talk about when experiencing it themselves and when observing it in other people. In July 2020, Jim died by suicide. Until that point, nobody close to him had known he was suffering.

What we do

HELP – Jim's Story has been created by Jim's family and friends who are driven to try and identify and support those who are suffering in silence by signposting them to the help they need. Our aim is to prevent another person suffering as Jim did and another family having to deal with such devastation to their lives.

The aim of this fund is to educate people, raise awareness and to give people a deeper understanding of mental health and the factors that affect wellbeing; as well as providing people with the practical skills and knowledge needed to spot the triggers and signs of poor mental health and give people the confidence to step in and support where needed.
